Set Apart | 1 Peter 1:13–25 | 5 Devotions on Living as God’s Holy People
These five devotions are drawn from our sermon on 1 Peter 1:13–25 in the Living Hope series. In this passage, Peter calls believers to a life marked by holiness, reverent fear, and sincere love—grounded in the unshakable hope we have in Christ. Each day’s reflection includes a short Scripture reading, a brief meditation, and a prayer to help you live as one of God’s set-apart people. Use these devotions personally or with your family as you walk in the hope of the gospel.
Day 1: Holiness Starts with Hope
Scripture: Titus 2:11–14
Reflection: Holiness isn’t about moral performance—it’s about grace shaping our lives. Just as Peter calls us to set our hope fully on the return of Christ, Paul reminds us that God’s grace trains us to renounce ungodliness. True holiness flows from hope: a settled confidence that Jesus is returning, and that we belong to Him.
Prayer: Lord, help me live today with my eyes fixed on the grace to come. Train my heart to say no to sin and yes to your calling.
Day 2: Living in Reverent Fear
Scripture: Philippians 2:12–13
Reflection: Reverent fear isn’t dread—it’s awe-filled obedience. Paul echoes Peter’s call to conduct ourselves with fear, reminding us that God is at work in us both to will and to work for His good pleasure. When we understand the cost of our redemption, obedience becomes the natural response.
Prayer: Father, help me not to take your grace for granted. Deepen my awe of your holiness and let my life reflect your glory today.
Day 3: Love One Another Earnestly
Scripture: John 13:34–35
Reflection: Jesus commands His followers to love one another as He has loved us. Peter calls for that same love—earnest, pure, and rooted in gospel truth. The church is not just a crowd of people—it’s a family.
Prayer: Jesus, teach me to love your people with sincerity. Help me move toward others in grace, patience, and humility.
Day 4: The Word That Remains
Scripture: Isaiah 40:6–8
Reflection: Peter quotes Isaiah to drive home the truth: everything in this world fades, but God’s Word endures forever. The gospel isn’t a passing trend—it’s an eternal foundation. When we build our lives on God’s Word, we stand on something that cannot be shaken.
Prayer: God, anchor my life in your Word. Let it shape my thoughts, my values, and my identity each day.
Day 5: What Story Defines You?
Scripture: Colossians 3:1–4
Reflection: Peter challenges us to consider which story defines our identity. The world says we are what we achieve. God says we are hidden with Christ in God. Let your life be shaped by the gospel—the story of a Savior who bought you with His blood and calls you to a life set apart.
Prayer: Lord, remind me who I am in Christ. Let the story of your redemption shape every part of my life today.
