Looking for a Church in Southwest Minnesota?

We’re glad you’re here!

First Reformed is a congregation in the Evangelical Presbyterian Church (EPC), faithfully serving the Edgerton community since 1906. Our church was originally part of the Reformed Church in America (RCA), but we peacefully withdrew in 2022 over concerns regarding the authority of Scripture and matters of human sexuality. In choosing the EPC, we were drawn to its strong Presbyterian form of government and its requirement that both teaching elders (pastors) and ruling elders subscribe to the church’s confessional standards.

As a theologically Reformed body, we have always had a Presbyterian form of church government, a Reformed understanding of salvation, and a high view of the authority and sufficiency of Scripture.

If you are comparing churches in our area, here are a few things that stand out about us:

We Are Evangelical

We believe the Bible is the inspired, infallible Word of God and the only rule for faith and life. Salvation is found in Christ alone, by grace alone, through faith alone. The gospel is at the center of our preaching, worship, and discipleship.

We Are Reformed

We hold to the historic Reformed confessions — including the Westminster Confession of Faith, the Three Forms of Unity, and the Essentials of Our Faith from the EPC. These statements summarize the Bible’s teaching on the sovereignty of God, salvation by grace, and the lordship of Christ in every area of life.

We Are Presbyterian

Elders elected by the congregation govern us — a system of shared leadership that has guided us for generations. We belong to a regional group of churches called a Presbytery, and we are connected to other EPC congregations across the nation. This structure helps us remain faithful, accountable, and connected as we serve our community.

How We’re Different From Other Local Churches

You may notice several churches in Edgerton with “Presbyterian” or “Reformed” in their names. Here's how we're different:

We are not affiliated with the Presbyterian Church (USA), which has taken more progressive theological and social positions than we believe are faithful to Scripture.

We are not part of the Christian Reformed Church in North America or the Protestant Reformed Church, though we share a Dutch Reformed heritage and a respect for their traditions. We differ in areas of doctrine, practice, and oversight.

If you’re seeking Biblical preaching, Christ-centered worship, and a church committed to discipleship and Scripture, we invite you to visit.

In a time when many churches have shifted their worship styles, we remain committed to a style that is simple, reverent, and grounded in Scripture. While our worship is traditional in form, our congregation is made up of families from a variety of backgrounds, united by a shared desire to hear God’s Word clearly and exalt Christ together.

We’d Love to Meet You

Whether you’ve never been to church, haven’t been in years, or are looking for a congregation that teaches the Bible faithfully and has worship that is simple, Biblical, and faithful — we’d be honored to welcome you this Sunday in Edgerton.
