The Road to Redemption | Day 42: Luke 22:1-23 – The Passover and the Promise of Redemption

Here in the first part of Luke 22, the final events leading to Jesus’ crucifixion begin to unfold, highlighting themes of betrayal, sacrifice, and the inauguration of the new covenant. These verses call us to reflect on the depth of Jesus’ love and His unwavering commitment to God’s redemptive plan.

The plot against Jesus intensifies as Judas agrees to betray Him for money. Satan’s involvement in Judas’ betrayal emphasizes the spiritual battle surrounding these events. Yet, even in this act of treachery, God’s sovereign plan is unfolding to bring salvation through Christ’s death.

At the Passover meal, Jesus institutes the Lord’s Supper, transforming the traditional celebration into a profound act of remembrance. The bread and cup symbolize His body and blood, offered as a sacrifice for the forgiveness of sins. This new covenant fulfills the promises of the Old Testament, assuring believers of God’s grace and eternal redemption through Christ.

Jesus’ awareness of His impending suffering and betrayal does not deter Him from showing love and grace, even toward Judas. His declaration that "the Son of Man goes as it has been determined" reveals His submission to the Father’s will and His role as the perfect Passover Lamb.

This passage calls us to marvel at Christ’s sacrificial love, trust in the promises of the new covenant, and examine our hearts as we participate in the Lord’s Supper.
