What Will You Do with the Empty Tomb? | Mark 16:1-8 | 5 Devotions on the Resurrection
Mark 16:1–8 ends not with rejoicing, but with trembling and silence. Yet in that abrupt ending, we find a powerful invitation—a question that presses into every heart: How will you respond to the resurrection of Jesus? This five-day devotional series builds on the message from Resurrection Sunday and invites you to reflect more deeply on the victory of Christ and the urgency of the gospel.
📢 This devotional series is based on our Resurrection Sunday meditation from Mark 16:1–8.
Day 1 – The Fear at the Tomb
Read Mark 16:1–8
Meditation: The women expected to anoint a body. Instead, they found an empty tomb, and fear seized them. The Gospel of Mark ends not with celebration, but with trembling. This abrupt conclusion invites us to stop and ask: What does the resurrection mean for me?
Prayer: Risen Lord, help me not to shrink back in fear, but to marvel at your power over the grave and respond with faith.
Day 2 – Witnesses of the Resurrection
Read 1 Corinthians 15:3–8
Meditation: Paul recounts the appearances of the risen Christ—not just to the disciples, but to over 500 people. The resurrection was not a private vision. It was a public reality. The message is trustworthy, and many witnessed it.
Prayer: God of truth, thank you for the testimony of those who saw the risen Christ. Strengthen my faith to trust their witness and live by it.
Day 3 – A Commission to Speak
Read Matthew 28:16–20
Meditation: The silence of the women in Mark 16:8 gives way to the commission in Matthew: Go and make disciples. The resurrection isn't just to be believed—it’s to be proclaimed.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, you have all authority in heaven and on earth. Use me to share your gospel with others in word and deed.
Day 4 – Fear Transformed into Boldness
Read Acts 4:18–20
Meditation: Peter and John were once afraid. But the resurrection changed them. Now, they boldly proclaim: “We cannot help but speak.” The gospel transforms silence into witness.
Prayer: Holy Spirit, give me boldness. Let the resurrection empower me to speak your truth, even when I am tempted to remain silent.
Day 5 – Living in the Light of the Resurrection
Read Romans 6:4–11
Meditation: To believe in the resurrection is not just to agree with a historical fact—it’s to walk in newness of life. We are no longer slaves to sin. Christ’s victory becomes our freedom.
Prayer: Risen Savior, thank you that I have been raised with you. Help me walk in newness of life today, shaped by the power of your resurrection.
