Praying for Pastor Mark’s Trip Teaching in Ethiopia

Friday January 12

Pray for travel safety and sleep during travel.

Saturday January 13

Arrival in Addis Ababa

Pray for rest as Mark adjusts to the different sleep and eating schedule.

Sunday January 14

Mark will be preaching at Lord’s Day worship at a church. Pray for patience as he has never preached with a translator before.

Monday January 15

Today is the first day of class with the seminarians. Pray for wisdom on connecting with students on the topic of “Preaching Christ from All of Scripture” and learning their starting point across cultural and educational differences.  

Also pray for Mark’s pace of speaking as the students are not native English speakers. This first lecture will be an introduction to the topic and the scriptural basis for this approach to preaching. The second session will go through assorted errors and heresies from church and the present. Students will learn how Christ-centered preaching helps us avoid these errors.

Tuesday January 16

Second day of class. Pray for continued wisdom as Mark teaches. The topics of discussion today will be “What Christ-Centered Preaching Looks Like” and “Proclaiming Christ in Genesis”. In the afternoon, Mark will be heading to the MKA Ministries homeless outreach.

Wednesday January 17

Another day of classes. Topics for the day are “Proclaiming Christ from the Law and Historical Books” and “Christ-Centered Proclamation from the Psalms”. The day also includes a visit to the housing units for MKA’s homeless ministry.

Thursday January 18

Classes today will focus on “Christ-Centered Proclamation from the Psalms and Wisdom Literature” and “Christ-Centered Proclamation from the Old Testament Prophetic Literature”. Also another day of going to the homeless outreach soup kitchen ministry with preaching in the afternoon.

Friday January 19

Final day of classes with the seminarians. Topics will be “Christ-Centered Proclamation from the New Testament” and “Christ-Centered Proclamation in Practice”. Today will also involve additional group discussion with the students and questions and answers on assorted topics.

Saturday January 20

Pray for safe travel to another city where Mark will be preaching and giving a lecture on “Christ-Centered Preaching” (translator) to pastors in that area.

Sunday January 21

Preaching at Lord’s Day worship at a church and then giving the “Christ-Centered Preaching” lecture to another group (translator).

Monday January 22

Preach and teach at a ministry in another city (translator).

Pray for safe travel to the MKA Ministries’ Children’s school.

“Christ-Centered Preaching” lecture with pastors (translator) in the region of the school.

Tuesday January 23

Pray for the time of worship and Christian fellowship at the children’s school. Mark will be preaching (translator) again.

Wednesday January 24

Pray for safe travel on the return to Addis Ababa and visit the main offices of MKA Ministries.

Thursday January 25

Pray for safe travel back to Chicago.

Friday January 26

Pray for rest and adjusting back to regular eating and sleeping schedules.

Pray for the Rivers and Lakes Presbytery meeting at First Presbyterian Church in Waukegan, IL

Saturday January 27

Pray for the Rivers and Lakes Presbytery meeting at Hope Evangelical Presbyterian Church in Grayslake, IL and for safe travel home.
